BBC Radio Five Live goes live

In September 2006 BBC Radio Five Live went on-air with its newly refurbished studio S4 in BBC Television Centre (TVC) London.

In March 2006 IPE Ltd were awarded the contract to refurbish the S4 studio in TVC having installed the original analogue system back in 1997. The original system was based around an analogue Calrec S2 36 channel mixer and used a good deal of cabling. The project brief was to install a new DHD 4200 digital audio mixer in custom furniture whilst re-using as much of the original cabling infrastructure as possible.

One of the main challenges of the project was to keep the adjacent studio S5 on-air during the installation as much of the central equipment; outside sources and talkback were common to both areas.
