IPE Ltd wins BBC Remediation contract

IPE was awarded a contract in December 2005 to work with the BBC English Regions team to supply and install central Programme/Transmission router systems in 16 local radio sites across England.

The hardware infrastructure in some of these sites is over 20 Years old; hence many of the outside source, transmission and monitoring switches were starting to fail, with replacements no longer available. As the facilities could be replicated using a central router under BNCS control, IPE together with the BBC English Regions (ER) teams from BNCS and the ER trainers set about a ‘Remediation’ 12 month rollout programme.

Although each site was installed as a ‘template build’ back in the 1980s, unsurprisingly no two sites have remained technically the same, as the operational expectation and requirements of the stations has evolved. This has meant that a close working relationship was necessary with the ER project team together with the station engineers to obtain accurate up-to date documentation.

All of the central router systems had to be installed whilst the stations were on air. So far IPE have completed 10 sites without any transmission outages. The remainder of the sites are due for completion by the end of the year.
