Software Project Manager

Overview
Job Purpose
The purpose of this role is to project manage the development
and completion of the IDS system Core, taking an active
role in software development and leading the team to complete
the project on time and within budget.
Additional Information
The Product Development Department in which this role
is based designs hardware and software applications for
use in the Broadcast industry. Within the department there
is a small team developing further products and applications
for an established Information Display System.
The postholder will be responsible for leading this team
to complete the development of a second-generation 'Core'
system kernel, which will provide an enhanced basis for
ongoing development of the many new applications and hardware
being requested by our clients. These include the ingest
of Alarms, Scheduling information (from MOS interfaces),
CCTV picturesand real-time data in a number of formats.
The software is coded in C and C++,. running on a Linux-based
operating system.
This post is a fixed term contract of 6 months with the
potential to extend depending on future projects. The postholder
will be expected to travel on occasion to site and a full
driving licence is required.
Role (Accountabilities)
- Project managing the development of the IDS core module
- Planning schedules in conjunction with the team covering
software design, software completion, GUI design, 3rd
party hardware, box design, tooling and 3rd party manufacture
- Software coding in C and C++ in conjunction with the
existing team members
- Code review and bug fixing
- Product documentation to ISO 9001 & 14001
including software documentation
- Undertaking quality assurance testing
- Liaison with the management team and customers to update
on project completion
- Managing functionality change requests and advising
the management team of any implications
Skillset
Requirements
- Demonstrable experience project managing / delivering
a similar type of product involving low level software
coding on time and to budget.
- Demonstrable experience
of coding in C and C++ on a LINUX platform / programming
embedded PIC controllers and be able to provide examples
of code at interview
- Demonstrable experience writing product
documentation to ISO 9001 and ISO 14001
- Experience of undertaking
quality assurance testing
- Experience of customer liaison
and leading a project team
- A demonstrable understanding
of electronic engineering principles as applied to the
broadcast environment
- A full clean driving licence
